Vafa Jamali
Vice President and General Manager
Vafa has over 20 years of experience in the Medical Device field, working primarily within the fields of minimally invasive surgery, respiratory, pharmacy automation, infusion systems, medical supplies and distribution. Vafa joined Covidien in January of 2009 as Vice-President and General Manager of Covidien Canada. After a successful term in Canada, he relocated to Sunnyvale, California in April 2012, where he leads the newly formed GI Solutions business, formerly BÂRRX Medical. Prior to joining Covidien, Vafa held positions of increasing responsibility with Cardinal Health and Baxter Corporation. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree (with distinction) from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta.
Greg Barrett
President and Chief Executive Officer
Greg Barrett has more than 30 years of medical device experience, working primarily in the fields of gastroenterology, urology, cardiology, gynecology and general minimally invasive surgery. Prior to joining Covidien (formerly BÂRRX Medical, Inc)., Barrett served as president and CEO of ACMI Corp. Barrett was previously a group Vice President at Boston Scientific Corp. with responsibilities at various times over the Microvasive Endoscopy, Microvasive Urology and Intercontinental International businesses. Mr. Barrett has also held the position of Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing at both Orthofix Corp. (formerly American Medical Electronics) and Baxter Healthcare. He also spent 13 years at C.R. Bard Corp. and finished his tenure there as Vice President of Marketing in the cardiosurgery division.
Barrett holds a B.A. in Marketing from the University of Texas, Austin. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for BaroSense, Inc.
David S. Utley, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer
David S. Utley, M.D. has served as Chief Medical Officer for Covidien (formerly BÂRRX Medical, Inc.) since 2003. Prior to joining the company, Utley was Chief Medical Officer and founder of Curon Medical, Inc. He has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications in the fields of gastroenterology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and otolaryngology. He is the inventor on 51 U.S. issued patents and over 70 U.S. published patents.
In 1997, Dr. Utley was appointed staff surgeon at VA Palo Alto Health Care System and clinical assistant professor of surgery at Stanford University Medical School. He is board certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has an active California medical license.
Utley earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and received a B.A. with highest distinction from the Pennsylvania State University.
Robert Haggerty
Vice President, Global Marketing
Bob Haggerty joined Covidien (formerly BÂRRX Medical) in 2005 and was the Company's Vice-President of Sales until 4th Quarter 2010. He has over 20 years of medical device sales experience.
Prior to joining the company, Haggerty served as Director of Sales & National Accounts for ACMI (a division of Olympus). Haggerty was previously the Area Vice President of Sales at Purchasepro.com and the Director of Sales at Boston Scientific Corporation-Microvasive Endoscopy. Additionally, Haggerty spent six years with Procter and Gamble.
Haggerty holds BS in Business from Wake Forest University.
Darin Wilson
Vice President, International Sales and Marketing
Darin Wilson has 20 years' experience in sales and marketing in the medical device industry, including an extensive background in international markets and endoscopy products. Most recently with Medtronic Western Europe as a Senior Marketing Director, he also spent over 15 years at Boston Scientific in various marketing and sales positions, including 4 years as Director of Marketing for Endoscopy Europe and 3 years as a Business Unit Manager in Southeast Asia. He began his career with Procter and Gamble in the Health and Beauty Care Division.
Wilson holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the Stephan F. Austin University, Nacogdoches, Texas.
Richard Pilon
Vice President, Reimbursement
Richard Pilon has more than 25 years' medical device experience, working primarily in the fields of cardiopulmonary and spine. Prior to joining Covidien (formerly BÂRRX Medical, Inc)., Pilon served as Director of Healthcare Policy and Government Relations at Kyphon, Inc. Other previous positions include sole proprietor of CRMD Consulting Services and Director of National Accounts for Avecor Cardiovascular.
Pilon holds a Bachelors of Science in Technical Management with a minor in Economics from Regis University and a Master of Divinity with honors from Denver Seminary.
John de Csepel, M.D.
Vice President, Medical Affairs
John de Csepel has been with Covidien (formerly BÂRRX Medical, Inc) since 2007 when he joined the company as a Director of Medical Affairs. Prior to Covidien, Dr. de Csepel served as Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan with a concurrent appointment as an Assistant Professor of Surgery from New York Medical College. Over the course of his academic career, de Csepel has authored 35 peer-reviewed publications and made over 50 presentations at medical conferences. He has won awards from the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine (Aufses Prize) and Georgetown University School of Medicine (Cahill Award). Dr. de Csepel’s work on behalf of the international relief organization Doctors Without Borders, which has included missions to Darfur, Nigeria and Sri Lanka, has led to a citation from the American Red Cross. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and has an active New York medical license.
Dr. de Csepel earned his undergraduate degree in business administration and subsequent medical degree from Georgetown University, where he was named a member of the national medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.
